General Attorney (GS-11, 12, 13, & 14) - SkillBridge Internship Opportunity
IMPORTANT: This opportunity is OUTSIDE of USAJOBS and ONLY open to SkillBridge eligible candidates who are at AT LEAST 13 months from separation from the military and qualified for the below opportunity. Non-competitive hiring pursuant to the Excepted Service at the GS-11 to GS-14 grade may be available as a result of the participation in this SkillBridge opportunity. With requisite years of relevant experience, applicants that are eligible for either the 30% or More Disabled and/or Schedule A hiring authority may be hired up to the GS-15 grade.

- - - - - - - Schedule A - Allows CBP to hire up to the GS-15 level. Schedule A is a great option for those service-members who anticipate a 30% or More disability rating from VA but who are not yet in receipt of it and can be used once service-members are within 120 days of separation to be offered a non-competitive hiring opportunity to join our team via this SkillBridge internship.

SALARY: DoD SkillBridge interns are paid by DoD while they intern as volunteers with CBP. The salary range below reflects the pay scale if hired at the end of the SkillBridge internship. There is no guarantee of employment, however, if CBP hiring managers are able to hire interns at internship conclusion, the salary range is: $62,107-159,950 (GS-11 Step 1 to GS-15 Step 10) but does not include location pay.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Office of Chief Counsel (OCC) serves as in-house counsel to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the nation's largest law enforcement agency. CBP is charged with countering terrorism, combatting transnational crime, securing the border, facilitating lawful trade, protecting revenue, and facilitating lawful travel. OCC is vital to CBP's accomplishment of that mission. OCC attorneys advise and train CBP's operational clients on issues relating to immigration, constitutional, customs and international trade, tort, disclosure, ethics, and labor and employment law. OCC attorneys represent CBP's operational clients in administrative proceedings before the Merit Systems Protection Board and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and at arbitration.
Further, OCC attorneys partner with U.S. Department of Justice attorneys on affirmative and defensive federal litigation involving CBP, at times in cases with national implications. OCC attorneys harness RelativityOne, a cutting-edge, secure document review platform with advanced technologies, to manage and conduct electronic discovery, ensure the protection of privileged and sensitive information, and strategize CBP's litigation position with OCC colleagues, CBP's operational clients, and U.S. Department of Justice attorneys.
A General Attorney intern will be provided the opportunity to engage in a legal practice spanning CBP's diverse legal portfolio, acquiring a nuanced understanding of CBP's operations and legal authorities and an experience beneficial to employment within OCC.
